So, it has already been four days since the arrival of the New Year 2016, and we are sure by now, you must have been worn out of all the New Year Resolutions you made with much enthusiasm. You cannot maintain all the life-changing, New Year Resolutions that you all make every year only to break them after just two or three days. So, why not do something ACTUALLY different this year and make resolutions which are realistic and quite easy to achieve, and at the same time, make you feel good about doing something nice?

#1. Do one thing in a day that makes you feel REALLY GOOD without feeling guilty
It could be eating something full of carbs, or ditching those boring office files for a 5-minute walk down the park, or dancing to your favourite song at night, or just taking a step back from the fast-paced life and simply not doing anything for a few minutes. It is your day, it is your happiness. Do whatever that makes you happy without feeling guilty.

#2. Save an animal’s life if you cannot adopt them
No, we are not asking you to adopt a PET. You can do that if you wish to. But, if you do not have the time to look after a pet, or are not that fond of animals, you can simply save an animal’s life. For example- you can call in animal shelter homes to provide home to the street dogs this winter, or you could call an NGO that looks after animals to treat a sick cat or cow you see lying on the street.
#3. Spend time with the elderly at an old age home

The elderly people do not need your sympathy, they just want your time. And trust us, they love it when young people come to visit them and spend some quality time sharing stories related to life, work, politics, religion, movies, television, anything! It will not only make you feel good, but it will also bring a smile on the face of these old people who just need a bit of attention.
#4. Explore your city first before exploring the world

Yes, for a holiday you do not need to fly off to an exotic foreign location. Why don’t you first start exploring what is near to you? Yes, yes we know you do not have time to take a trip to nearby hill stations or any other holiday places. For once, stop living for the Facebook check-ins, and start living for the wanderlust. You can check out the places within an hour’s distance. Explore the famous markets that you always wanted to visit in your city. Or, take a walk down the famous places of your area- monuments, heritage locations, etc.

#5. Finance a child’s education if you cannot take time out to teach them

Why don’t you contact an NGO, or an orphanage home, or finance the education of your household staff’s children? Trust us, it will give you a warm feeling inside when you pay for the basic education of an under-privileged child. If you cannot afford the whole year’s fees, you can still help by buying them books, school uniforms, send them monthly allowances, etc.
#6. Talk to an old friend by making good use of technology

Let’s face it. We are never going to switch off our phones and go offline. We are surrounded by technology everywhere. So, then why not make good use of it and use it to search for an old friend with whom you have lost touch? Contact him through social media or mobiles, make plans to meet him/her, and actually post selfies that will make your other friends feel good and nostalgic as well.
It is time we come to terms with the fact that achieving realistic small New Year Resolutions is far better than impractical ones that we keep to impress others. Start living for yourself and doing little good deeds for others. It will make you feel a whole lot better than seeing your waist size drop down by 2 inches!
